Abstract

An equilibrium result may depend on the social benefit, which depends on the behavior and actions of each player, or in other words, on the way in which each player weighs his or her personal benefit in relation to the social benefit. This work examines the effect of altruism as part of the equilibrium strategy on the social welfare function in Tullock’s model (Tullock, 1980) and in the model of Epstein et al. (2007), the equilibrium stability in each of the models, and whether these two effects go hand in hand.
