Bar-Ilan Summertime Seminar 2020 סמינר אב–אלול

2017

March 27–30, 2017: Moshe Buchinsky from UCLA gave a crash course entitled Estimating Dynamic Models of Decision Making with
Applications to Labor Markets
.

January 23–26, 2017: A Workshop on Decision Making and Contest Theory was organized by the Sir Issac Wolfson Chair and the RIE at the Ein Gedi Hotel by the Dead Sea. The Workshop will be a small gathering bringing about researchers involved in (individual and collective) decision making and (individual and collective) contest theory. The goal of the workshop is to bring together some top researchers to present their approaches and summarize the state of the art in the area as well as to report on recent advances.

Organizing Committee: Shmuel Nitzan and Offer Lieberman, Department of Economics, Bar-Ilan University.

Scientific Program

April 8–16, 2016: Ioannis Kasparis from University of Cyprus and Tassos Magdalinos from University of Southampton visited the RIE.

2015

April 28–May 3, 2015: Stefan Hoderlein from Boston College gave a crash course entitled Program Evaluation: Estimating Program Effectiveness.

2014

November 20–25, 2014: Yuichi Kitamura from Yale University gave a crash course entitled Recent Developments in Econometrics: Computational Methods and Nonparametric MLE.

April 24–May 1, 2014: Otilia Boldea from Tilburg University visited the RIE and gave a lecture entitled Break Point Estimation with Endogenous Regressors and the New Keynesian Phillips Curve on April 28, 2014.

March 3–5, 2014: Anders Rahbek from University of Copenhagen visited the RIE and gave a lecture entitled An Overview of Time Series Models in Econometrics on March 3, 2014.

January 7–9, 2014:  A workshop supported by the Israel Science Foundation and the RIE on Likelihood and Simplicity: Considerations on Model Selection.

The workshop deals with the broad question of theory or model selection: how do, and how should we select among theories?  How should one strike the balance between the degree to which theories fit the data, or are corroborated by evidence, and their simplicity, generality, and other properties?  This question is at the heart of research in econometrics, statistics, machine learning, decision theory, as well as philosophy of science.  The goal of the workshop is to bring together some top researchers from diverse fields to present their approaches to the problem, as well as report on recent advances.

Organizing Committee: Itzhak Gilboa, The Eitan Berglas School of Economics, Tel Aviv University; Offer Lieberman, Department of Economics, Bar-Ilan University; Yishay Mansour, School of Computer Science, Tel Aviv University.
